IGCSE Study Buddy

For Cambridge / Edexcel curriculum school

A cross-platform desktop and mobile application for IGCSE exam preparation — past-paper questions, locally graded MCQs for instant feedback, LLM-graded structured questions with part-by-part breakdowns, and per-topic progress tracking.

Structured question with AI feedback on landscape tablet.

IGCSE students preparing for O-Level exams lacked an interactive way to practise past-paper questions and receive immediate, meaningful feedback. Traditional revision means flipping through mark schemes manually, with no way to track weak topics over time. The work delivered here is built to replace that cycle.

What we delivered

A Tauri-based application — desktop and mobile — that serves randomised past-paper questions from an embedded SQLite question bank. Multiple-choice questions are graded locally for instant results, with optional on-demand AI explanations. Structured questions are marked by an LLM against the official marking scheme, with part-by-part breakdowns that mirror how an examiner reads. Students can track per-topic accuracy over time and configure their preferred LLM provider. The interface supports mathematical input with LaTeX rendering, table-based answers, inline formula editing, and diagram-accompanied questions.

Phase 1 ships three O-Level courses — Cambridge Physics, Edexcel Mathematics, Edexcel Chemistry — all chosen by the school’s subject heads to match their curriculum.

How we worked

Key Stage 4 subject heads embedded in the build as domain experts. They classified every past-paper question by curriculum topic — the foundation for per-topic progress tracking that lets students focus revision where it matters and lets the application generate targeted practice quizzes. Their feedback on what good grading and useful student feedback look like directly shaped the prompts that drive LLM marking. Subject expertise drove the product design as much as engineering did.
